Who is Sigma Global?
SIGMA is a manufacturing company that produces and distributes digital cameras, interchangeable lenses and photographic accessories. Since their foundation in 1961, they have exclusively produced photography- and video-related products. In other words, they are a company that focuses all its efforts on creating tools for photography.
Why build a new website?
While there are a number of reasons why Sigma Global called for a new website, the 2 main reasons are that the company wanted to create an online store because they expanded the products and services they offer and wanted to optimize their website for local search.
I started by compiling a list of companies comparable to Sigma Global in terms of similar businesses and target audiences (such as Sony, Fujifilm, Leica, Olympus, etc.) Then, I studied Sigma’s competition’s online presence to understand its marketing strategy and evaluated its website content. The idea here was to find similarities and identify differences between Sigma’s products and services and those of its competitors.
Key takeaways
• Do not overwhelm the user, while also giving the user avenues to learn more or get help.
• Reduce the number of steps to minimize time to completion by creating a solid navigation.
• Give users a curated experience, not just a product.
• Establish clearer visual hierarchy by grouping related fields and integrating well-designed CTA buttons.
Project Learnings
• Gained experience creating presentations and documentation to articulate design decisions and high-fidelity prototypes to demonstrate the user flow and interactions of the interface. This involved effectively communicating design concepts to stakeholders to gain their approval.
• Developed an understanding of the importance of UX design in creating an interface that meets the user's goals and needs. This involved identifying the user's pain points and designing the interface to meet those needs, while ensuring that the interface is intuitive and easy to use.
• Realized the value of conducting interviews, surveys, and usability testing to identify the target audience, understand their needs and preferences, and design an interface that meets their requirements.
